Quick Carve Sunday 3pm Auction & Awards to follow
ABOUT THE EVENT
2019 marked the 15th year of the Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Championship and the 3rd year since the Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Championship Society has taken over on the organization of planning this monumental event. Unfortunately due to Covid the 2020 and 2021 Events had to be cancelled.
The competition has been held on the second weekend of June since its inception, and has steadily gained notoriety in the carving world as one of the best managed and most welcoming events in the world today. It is a family friendly weekend, free for the public to attend, with plenty of food and craft vendors, and sponsor booths from all over the Peace region, for every age to enjoy.
Each year 12 carvers (4 International, 4 US, and 4 Canadian) are selected by our board of directors, and are invited to bring their best work to see how it will stand up against the world's best. (many of the carvers bring smaller carvings to sell to the onlookers so bring your wallets)
The Carvers are provided with a 40-50 inch diameter by 8 foot tall western red cedar and 35 hours to complete a sculpture of their own design. The fact that there is no theme here in Chetwynd makes it very hard for the judges to pick a winner, but it is also the chief reason our pretty, little, northern BC town has nearly 200 sculptures for the entire Peace Region and visitors from all over the world to enjoy.
At the conclusion of the main event on Sunday, the crowds make their way to the quick carve and awards grounds, where all the carvers compete in a 90 minute quick carve. These pieces are live auctioned off to the highest bidders and proves some of the most exciting times of the weekend.
All that is left to do is hand out the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards and plaques, as well as the coveted peoples choice and carvers choice awards.
